It’s a dream of ours to shake up how people view appliances. We want to help move away from buying the latest bit of “stuff”, using it for a while, and then chucking it out. We need to look after our planet and not be part of the problem by adding yet another appliance onto the local landfill site.
That’s why we’re here; investing in better, not more.
Our first job is to find a select group of staggeringly cool appliances which help solve some sort of problem or help make things that little bit better (that’s what we mean by “intelligent”).
In a way, that’s the easy bit. That’s when the hard work really starts; we want to go on a journey with anyone who has been kind enough to put their trust in us.
Gary Baker
How we got going
It all started back in 2019 when Gary, our founder was blown away by an amazing new appliance launching in the US (hopefully one of our stable of thoroughbreds in the future…watch this space).
At that point he’d been thinking for a while that the way appliances are sold needed shaking up. How good would it be to build an ‘intelligent’ business? One that’s an unstoppable force for good.
Our values

Winning together
• We see business as an infinite game; ‘winning’ is keeping going so we can invest in better, not more.
• We are relentless in our drive to find ways for the IA community to invest in being better together.
• We focus on our better people. We focus on our better customers.
• We inspire others with our unique awesomeness and positive energy.
• We believe that life is too short not to enjoy being at work, so we have fun when we’re here.
• We work hard, although we never take ourselves too seriously. We keep balance in our lives.
• We win through teamwork. All of us have a part to play. Together we are one Intelligent Appliances.

Ever Improving
•We are committed to making everything we do tomorrow better than it was today.
•We never stop learning. Personal growth helps Intelligent Appliances grow.
•We are curious; We are restless.
•We are OK with failing as long as we fail fast, we learn from it, and we do not blame others.

Doing the right thing
• We are kind.
• We look after each other. We are inclusive. We grow stronger through diversity.
• We treat others how we would want to be treated.
• We only say things about each other that we say to our faces.
• We clean up after ourselves. We are humble enough to do the small things that need to be done.
• We make sure we all have everything we need to be able to work safely and to work better.

Owning the outcome
• We earn trust by being personally accountable for doing our own job brilliantly.
• We say what we mean. We keep our promises.
• We act in the best interests of Intelligent Appliances.
• We do things without needing to be told to do them. We find solutions to problems.
• We treat leadership as a collective responsibility, not just the job of a few individuals.

Daring to dream
• We are brave. We think big. We think bold.
• We dare to be at the centre of the action. We do not stand by on the touchline and watch.
• We embrace change as part of what makes us great. Evolution is in our DNA.
• We should all have the courage and resourcefulness to spark change.
• We say “yes” when we are offered the right business opportunity and then work out how to do it.

The bits we’re really rubbish at
Nobody’s perfect. We’re certainly not. And in a strange way, we’re sort of attached to being distinctly second rate at certain things. That means we can double down where we really want to make an impact.
That’s why we don’t offer a quick delivery service. We’re old school like that. We’ll be with you in 10 working days.
We’re certainly not easy on the pocket. Sorry and all that. We simply can’t invest in better, not more on the cheap.
And we’re not crowd-pleasers. We’re standing up for what we believe in, which means that we won’t always be able to be as flexible in the way we work as you might like.
Phew, that feels good to get it out in the open.
Gary
Founder (and the one who makes sure we’re investing in better not more)
Emma
Head of Customer (and the one who brings sunshine into our customers lives)
Jonathan
Head of Operations (and the one who makes sure stuff gets done round here)
Jamie
Installation and Technical Advisor (and the one who knows how stuff works around here)
The Intelligent Appliances Way
Sometimes it’s hard to throw your hat in the ring with a company that you don’t know anything about. That’s why we’ve created The Intelligent Appliances Way. It’s a step by step guide to exactly what you will get from us at every stage of the journey.

Looking after the planet
There’s a burning passion here to show that a new business can be kinder. Can be more conscious about the impact of what we do on the planet and our communities. Can be an unstoppable force for good. Can lead a revolution in how we think about our appliances.
The IA Promise
How many times do we buy something, use it for a while, and then something goes wrong, or it needs a bit of love and attention to keep it working?
And how often does it just sit there, unused, gathering dust, looking at us with accusing eyes, until we throw it out? That’s the very last thing we want to happen with your Intelligent Appliance. That’s a disaster scenario for us.
That’s why we’ve come up with our Intelligent Appliances Promise – at any point in the first year after purchase, one of our roving team of eager helpers will be round to yours for your free of charge TLC visit.
You’re very welcome.

Investing in better communities
We’ve teamed up with the brilliant lifesavers at a charity called Emmaus to do our bit together to end homelessness and look after the planet.
What we’ve done is made sure that your appliance (as well as any furniture) that needs a great new home doesn’t need to go to the great scrapheap in the sky (or down to your local tip)

Do you want to be a Food Waste Superhero? It’s Easy Freezy.
It’s Food Waste Action Week and there’s a new set of Superheroes on the block; The Guardians of Grub. Who are they? They’re the food service and catering professionals rising up against food waste. Gawd bless ‘em. https://guardiansofgrub.com/ Why do they care? Because for every 2 tonnes of food we eat, another tonne is wasted. Because if food waste was a country, it would be the 3rd largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world (after China and the USA and way ahead of India). It gets worse. In the UK our hospitality and food service industry alone throws away 1.1 million tonnes of food each year. And 75% doesn’t need to be thrown away. Really. What are we playing at? I’m only a café/private chef/small-scale caterer, why should I care? Because it’s the right thing to do for the planet. Say no more. Oh wait. Because there are huge benefits for your catering business. Your customers care about the planet and they know that food waste is a problem. They want to know you’re doing something about it. There are stats for this too. We’re not just making it up. The clever people at WRAP can tell you more – https://wrap.org.uk/. And you’ll save money. Loads of it. All going to the bottom line at the same time as doing good. Food waste costs the industry £3.2 billion a year in the UK. The Ship Inn in Cumbria have been down this road. They had 80% less prep waste and

Become a partner
We can’t shake up the world of appliances on our own. We need to partner with like-minded suppliers who are looking for help with bringing their staggeringly cool appliances to the UK and Irish markets.
